We look forward to seeing you in Gordon’s Bay in 2014 for the fabulous
Winter Wonderland Festival from 27 June – 20 July
and for our highlight, the
Carnival Weekend from 4 - 6 July
Thank you to all who participated in making WINTER WONDERLAND 2013 a great success. We are very proud to announce that we attracted approximately 25.000 visitors to Gordon’s Bay during the Carnival, and plenty of positive responses were received. This was indeed a community-making exercise. See a review of our festival below.About WINTER WONDERLAND 2013 In June-July 2013, for the third year running, people came from afar to enjoy the nature, people, restaurants, shops and fun activities with us, and watched the entire village erupt into a dazzling extravaganza of fairy lights. The Winter Wonderland Carnival Weekend was a spectacular extravaganza of street performances, music, fun fair and exciting activities for all ages, with plenty of home-cooked foods and hand-crafted goodies on offer. People strolled along the beach from Harbour Island, past the Old Cape Mall, through the Village on their way to the Fairy Forest Festival and Bikini Beach. They browsed through the quaint shops, stopped at the pavement fires for a glass of gluhwein or hot chocolate, munched a delicious snack from one of the many food stalls at the Van Riebeek Village, while enjoying the buskers’ performances and visiting the Crafters Market at Indigo Lodge. A highlight of this journey was the mystical and activity-filled Fairy Festival in the Fairy Forest where our resident fairy folk laid out their wares, and especially at night when the twinkling white lights delighted children and adults alike. Our visitors enjoyed our restaurants and pubs, and danced at the Van Riebeek Village marquee to the live music. Melts Tavern was pumping as usual, they always bring in great bands. Harbour Island, with its romantic illuminated harbour bridge, hosted the art exhibition. The circular tractor rides transported people around Gordon’s Bay during the festival weekend, and the boat trips from Old Harbour to Harbour Island were a great hit. The Gordon’s Bay museum artifacts were again exhibited at the historic NG church on the beach front, where our local organists and choirs shared their passion for music. Last but not least, the Enchanted Ghost House on the beach front attracted thousands of visitors and the thrills were enjoyed by both children and adults. We will endeavour to make Winter Wonderland 2014 even better. See you next year in June. In the meantime, do come visit our town to enjoy the year-round activities and our beautiful nature. Gordon’s Bay has plenty of things to do, and offers accommodation to suit every taste and purse.
