Featuring the Carnival Weekend
28 June to 30 June 2013
Come enjoy the nature, people, restaurants, shops and fun activities with us, and watch the entire village erupt into a dazzling extravaganza of fairy lights from 22 June to 22 July. On 28 June we amp up the volume for the Winter Wonderland Carnival Weekend, a spectacular extravaganza of street performances, music, fun fair and exciting activities for all ages, with plenty of home-cooked foods and hand-crafted goodies on offer.
Stroll along the beach from Harbour Island, past the Old Cape Mall, through the Village on your way to the Fairy Forest Festival and Bikini Beach. Browse through the quaint shops, stop at a pavement fire for a glass of gluhwein or hot chocolate, munch a delicious snack from one of the many food stalls at the Van Riebeek Village, while enjoying the buskers’ performances and don`t miss the Crafters Market at the back Packers Lodge. A highlight of this journey is definitely the mystical and activity-filled Fairy Festival in the Fairy Forest where our resident fairy folk lay out their wares, and especially at night when the twinkling white lights delight children and adults alike. Enjoy our restaurants and pubs, and if you’re in the mood to party, visit the tented village at the Van Riebeek site, free entrance this year. Melts Tavern will be pumping as usual, they always bring in great bands. Harbour Island, with its romantic illuminated harbour bridge, will be hosting the art exhibition this year, well worth a visit to snap up a bargain from one of our excellent artists. The Old Harbour will also be a hive of activities with restaurants like The Tavern with great specials and entertainment. To get around Gordon’s Bay during the festival weekend, catch the dedicated tractor rides or take a boat trip from harbour to harbour We will again exhibit our Gordon’s Bay museum artefacts at the historic NG church on the beach front, where our local organists and choirs share their passion for music. Last but not least, the very brave can visit our Enchanted Ghost House on the beach front for a good thrill. Bring the kids!
